SMLC wants to invite you to join us in a volunteer workday on October 11th of eliminating invasive shrubs using the tried-and-true "cut-stump method". It’s as simple as taking a pair of loppers or a hand saw, cutting the shrub near ground level so as to leave a little bit of stump sticking up, and then applying a concentrated herbicide solution to that cut surface. Volunteers will mostly be doing the cutting while SMLC staff and any willing volunteers familiar with handling herbicides will be treating the stumps immediately after they are cut. We will also provide tools. It’s one of the easiest regularly-performed invasives treatment methods, so it will be a great opportunity for anyone, regardless of their conservation experience, to give back to the Earth.
When: Saturday, October 11th, 10:00am – 1:00pm
Location: LeFurge Woods Nature Preserve, located at 2452 N Prospect Rd, Superior Township, MI 48198. The work site is approx. a half mile east/southeast of the parking lot, in various spots along the tree-line. Luckily, tools are light and easy to carry.
