Monroe is one of the most historic cities in Michigan. It is well known as the home of Gen. George A. Custer and having the Historic River Raisin running into Lake Erie.The River Raisin Jazz Festival takes place the 2nd weekend in August each summer, attracting over 40,000 music lovers per year. It is also the site of the River Raisin Battlefield in the War of 1812.
