As evening settles over Muskegon, step inside the Hackley and Hume houses for a candlelit journey into Victorian traditions surrounding death, mourning and remembrance.
During the Obituary Tour, explore two historic lumber baron mansions after dark, when candlelight and moonlight give the grand interiors a different character. Along the way, hear stories connected to the people who lived in the homes and discover the customs, beliefs and mourning practices that shaped how Victorian families experienced death and remembered loved ones.
More history than haunted house, this special evening tour offers a fascinating way to experience Muskegon’s past and see the Hackley and Hume Historic Site in a setting visitors do not normally encounter.
Advance Registration: Required. Space is limited.
Good to Know: Check in at the City Barn, located in the carriage house between the Hackley and Hume houses. Free parking is available on Webster Avenue and 6th Street.
