Come one, come all to the Keweenaws tastiest celebration: The 21st Annual Pasty Fest in historic Calumet, MI! Organized by Main Street Calumet, the tribute to the Upper Peninsulas most beloved cuisine takes place this August 15-17 and features family fun and delicious pasties. The festival features live music, street vendors, vintage car show, parade, horseshoe tournament and more throughout the day. Brought to the Upper Peninsula by Cornish miners in the 1800s, the pasty has become a dietary staple in the Keweenaw. The hearty pastry filled with root vegetables, savory spices, and meats, became a mainstay as local miners worked long hours in the Keweenaws copper mines. Today, the food has become synonymous with a visit to the Upper Peninsula with pasty shops dotting small-town landscapes from Sault Ste. Marie to Ironwood and everywhere in between.
