Amid the forested ravines of the Marquette Iron Range, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum overlooks the Carp River and the site of the first iron forge in the Lake Superior region. The museum highlights the state's iron mining industry, which has flourished for more than 125 years. The museum has several examples of different technology developed by iron mining companies to better extract ore from the earth, but it also shares the stories of everyday life in mining communities. Visitors can view artifacts depicting not only work, but play in the Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is open year-round on the following schedule:
• May 1 – September 30: Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• October 1 – April 30: Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
