Headquarters Lake Equestrian State Forest Campground and Trail Camp
This rustic equestrian campground is situated on the shore of Headquarters Lake. There is a large equestrian day-use area near the entrance of the campground with four picket poles, a manure pit and a ramp for loading and unloading horses from trailers. Visitors may park and stage equipment in this area while they enjoy access to the Headquarters Lake Equestrian Trails. The trails are well-marked and vary in length. A highlight for this area is the trail to Lake Superior, which is an 18-mile round trip ride. There is a day-use fire pit area further down the campground road. The fire pit is surrounded by benches and the area can be used for cooking or warming up on a cold day.
There are six sites for tent, small trailer and large trailer use. Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay. Amenities include vault toilets, potable water from a hand-pump well and manure pits. The campground is located 23 miles north of Newberry via M-123 and County Road 407.Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations.
