16 designated sites and a group area that can accommodate 108 individuals. Both camping options can accommodate tents and small trailers. Vault toilets and potable water from a well-hand pump. There is also a submersible pump that requires a 5,000-watt generator to run. Sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations.
Located in the heart of the Manistee State Forest with access to many miles of equine trails and state forest roads suitable for riding. The trails offer water crossings and varying terrain for experienced and non-experienced riders. The Manistee River and Hopkins Creek State Forest Campground are located within a few miles.
The state forest campground is a stop along the Shore-to-Shore Trail, a 420-mile trail system open to hiking and horseback riding, that stretches east-west from Empire to Oscoda with two additional northern and southern spur trails. The Michigan Trail Riders Association assists with maintenance of the trail. Equestrian trail rider groups planning a ride may need to acquire a permit.
