Body
The 8.7 mile Mason Tract Pathway runs through the Mason Tract, 4,493-acre special management area located along the south branch of the AuSable River. It is designed to help protect the quality of fishing waters in the area. The Mason Tract originated as a gift in 1954, with the hopes that it would remain a permanent game preserve with no camping allowed.
The DNR still does not allow camping along this pathway, but does allow access for fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing and hiking. There is nearby camping available at the Canoe Harbor State Forest Campground, located at the north end on the AuSable River.
The pathway is maintained with the help of the Friends of the Mason Tract.
