Ortonville Recreation Area, located in north Oakland and southern Lapeer counties, is home to several lakes, an equestrian campground, a shooting range and trails open to hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and mountain biking. The 5,400-acre park is known for its wooded, hilly terrain. Many locals refer to the area as Hadley Hills.
The day-use area at Big Fish Lake offers ample parking, restroom facilities, a picnic area, two picnic shelters, a playground, horseshoe pits and a designated swim area.
Thanks to our friends group, the Ortonville Recreation Equestrian Association, for helping maintain the equestrian trails and campground.
Before visiting a state park, boating site or trail, it’s always a good idea to check the latest closures due to weather-related events, planned improvement projects and repairs. Visit Michigan.gov/DNRClosures.
