Relax and enjoy this beautiful setting on Squaw Beach by Lake Superior. Miles of sugar sand beach await you for a stroll on the
beach or just sitting in a lawn chair and taking in this fantastic view. There are no rocks, so wade, swim, or take the canoe out for a gentle paddle along the shoreline. Enjoy the beauty of Lake Superior or venture into the forests for hiking, ATVing, hunting, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. There is charter fishing on Lake Superior, guided inland fishing trips and equipment rentals. There are many nearby lakes and streams beckoning the angler and kayaker.
Lake Independence is noted for excellent fishing of pike, walleye, perch and a variety of panfish. Boats can be rented in town and there is a public boat launch at Perkins Park. Big Bay was the setting for filming parts of the classic movie "Anatomy of a Murder". Several businesses have interesting information and photos from this event. Lighthouse lovers will enjoy touring the Big Bay Lighthouse or the Marquette Lighthouse in Marquette. Marquette, the Upper Peninsula's largest city, also offers shopping, unique galleries, a Maritime Museum, Children's Museum, Lakeview Arena, the Olympic Training Center and fine dining.
