Kodo One Earth Tour 2019: Evolution

Midland Center for the Arts
1801 W. St. Andrews Road,
Midland, MI 48640

Exploring the limitless possibilities of taiko, the traditional Japanese drum, Kodo is forging new directions: traditional rituals recast as theater.

In Japanese the word “Kodo” conveys two meanings: “heartbeat” the primal source of all rhythm and, read in a different way, the word can mean “children of the drum.” Their repertoire includes pieces based on the traditional rhythms of regional Japan, compositions written for Kodo by contemporary songwriters, and works written by Kodo members themselves.

Since the group’s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, these percussionist kamikazes have really raised the roof during more than 3,700 performances on ?ve continents.

The Windows on the World Series presents artists from across the globe bringing their unique artistic heritage to our stage. Learn about different cultures with these “slice of the world” performances, each ending with a free and casual post-show party. Try something new!
