Roasted marshmallows, campfires, hot chocolate, hiking and all those familiar sounds and smells of the great outdoors the fun and excitement of camping continues all winter long.

Enjoy winter at state parks and recreation areas that offer camping opportunities throughout the season. Many offer rustic camping with no amenities, while others offer semi-modern campsites with electricity. State-owned camping facilities that offer cabins, mini-cabins, lodges or yurts, keep campers warm and cozy during the winter months with wood or propane heaters

 

Don't have a generator? No need to worry. Mitchell, Rifle River, Traverse City, Algonac, Bay City, Fort Custer, Ludington, North Higgins Lake, Tahquamenon Falls and the Waterloo Recreation Area-Portage Lake Campground offer site electricity in the winter. And for those less adventuresome winter campers, some of these properties even have heated restrooms.

If you are looking for a winter campsite located on a serene lake or nestled in the woods, then you'll want to check out Fort Wilkins, McLain, Porcupine Mountains and Wells in the Upper Peninsula. Michigan's Northern Lower Peninsula beckons campers to its pristine wooded sites at Hartwick Pines, Hoeft, Interlochen, Ludington, Mitchell, Rifle River, South Higgins Lake, Tawas Point, Traverse City and Wilderness. Farther south, winter campers can enjoy an exhilarating open-air experience at Bald Mountain, Brighton, Fort Custer, Highland, Holland, Holly, Island Lake, Ortonville, Pinckney, Port Crescent and Waterloo, which are all located in the Southern Lower Peninsula.
