Carson City is centrally located an hour or so northeast of Grand Rapids and an hour northwest of Lansing. The charming small town was established in 1887 and literally has one stop light, a post office, a pizza shop, a beautiful bed and breakfast and a pub. It is also the home of Retro Lanes.
Retro Lanes was built in 1946 and was named Carson City Lanes at that time. When the bowling alley first opened, little boys were hired as pinsetters to set up the bowling pins at the end of the lanes. Pin-setting equipment was installed in 1957 and that equipment is still being used to this day. As of November 2025, Greg and Florence Price are now the new owners who intend to continue the tradition and preservation of this historical bowling alley as a unique and fantastically fun Retro experience.
Retro Lanes is a six-lane bowling alley and the only bowling alley of it's kind in Michigan. This bowling alley offers a one-of-a-kind vintage experience with original real-wood lanes and classic manual scoring, transporting guests straight back to the 1950s. The charm of Retro Lanes is unmatched, featuring disco bowling on Friday nights, youth and adult leagues, a retro photo booth and refreshments including glass-bottle sodas, snacks and ice cream. Party Rentals are also available. Customers and groups travel from all over Michigan to Retro Lanes, because they believed this bowling opportunity is rare and worth experiencing firsthand.
