This beautiful park, created by the Mackinac Bridge Authority, affords a dramatic view up at the Mackinac Bridge and across the Straits to the recreated Fort Michillimackinac. A telescope permits close-up views of bridge details. Inside the enclosed pavilion, a display and three video monitors convey the scale and excitement of the Mackinac Bridge project, using Herman Ellis's outstanding still photos and movies of the construction process. Older historic images shed more perspective on the transportation challenges posed by the Straits of Mackinac's fast currents and strong winds. Covered picnic shelters with grills are by the pavilion. Restrooms are inside. From U.S. 2 just west of the Bridge, take Boulevard Drive straight down to the lakeside park. OR take the southbound I-75 bridge approach, watch for sign. Open daily from mid-April thru Nov., 7 am to 9 pm (summer) or daylight hours. Wheelchair-accessible.
