The Lakeshore Museum Center in Muskegon offers exhibits about the natural and cultural history of the area and hands-on activities. See a life-sized mastodon and explore the drawers in the Science Center. In Body Works, visitors can build a meal, try a skeleton puzzle, and engage is some physical activities. The museum operates four other sites including Michigan's Heritage Park which explores 10,000 years of Michigan history in a natural woodland setting in Whitehall. Visit a Native American wigwam village, learn about the fur trade, and stretch out on a bunk in the logging shanty. The Hackley & Hume Historic Site features the homes of Muskegon's most well known lumber barons. Enjoy lavish wood carvings, stained glass windows, and period furnishings. The history of firefighting is explored at the nearby Fire Barn Museum. The Scolnik House of the Depression Era is located next to the Fire Barn.
