More than just a collection of artifacts, it’s an adventure! With multiple sites, there is something for
everyone at Port Huron Museums.
Start at the oldest Lighthouse in the state of Michigan, the Fort Gratiot Light Station! Step back to the
1930s as you explore the grounds, that includes the Fort Gratiot Post Hospital. Pull up a chair in the
recreated living room or of the Keeper’s Duplex, or head over to the Fog Signal building to learn about
the science and technology of Lighthouses. No trip is complete without a climb up the stairs to the Best
View in the Blue at the top of the tower.
Get a bright idea at the Thomas Edison Depot Museum! This 1857 train depot is where a young Edison
got his start. Have your own lightbulb moment as you see rare artifacts and enjoy hands-on exhibits.
Come aboard the HURON Lightship, an iconic part of the shore for 50 years. The last of the floating
Lighthouses, the HURON offers an all-hands-on deck tour from stem to stern. This is one of the best
spots to see freighters up close, and even give them a steam whistle salute!
Lastly is the stately Carnegie Museum. This 1904 library holds many local treasures, and always has
something new on display in the galleries. Upstairs, find one of the largest collections of maritime
models in the state and a freighter pilothouse.
Be sure to check the Port Huron Museums online or on Facebook for special events and tours
throughout the year.
