The South Trail, located in Saugatuck Dunes State Park along the coast of Lake Michigan, stretches 5.2 miles through this secluded strip of Lake Michigan shoreline. The terrain of the trail varies from steep slopes to rolling dune hills, making it a moderately difficult journey for hikers. Visitors will encounter deep dune forests as well as picturesque views of Lake Michigan. Of the trails that compose the trail systems in Saugatuck Dunes State Park, this is the most secluded and wooded hike of the options. Hiking and cross-country skiing are both permitted on the trail, however, the ski trails are not groomed.
