Fresh Lives Here: My Perfect Day in the Keweenaw
Michiganders love where they live, and they’ll tell you why. We spent time with some locals in some of their favorite places to learn about why they choose to live, work and play in Michigan.

To go from city living in Denver to the Keweenaw Peninsula, located in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula, a passion for the outdoors is essential. Amber Erickson picked up her remote job and headed to the place where she could create the lifestyle she really wanted.
“I now have the best internet of anywhere I’ve ever lived,” she says. “It was easy to set up shop here, have a lower cost of living, and I still have that technology and accessibility I need to do my job.”
Led by her passion for mountain biking, Amber naturally found her community of like-minded people who are also drawn to the UP’s natural resources. “It’s easy to find community here, no matter what your skill level is,” she says.
While she’s naturally a fan of summer activities in the UP, Amber also recommends that visitors try arriving in the fleeting autumn season. “Fall is my favorite season in the UP. The trees change, the sun is shining and the air is cool. Just bring a flannel if you’ve never been here before!”
