Body
The 2,293 acres of Gourdneck State Game Area provides a host of recreational opportunities for local residents
and visitors alike, including hunting, trapping, bird watching, wildlife viewing and hiking.
Although physically
disjunct, the four separate units share many of the same cover types, including oak, mixed upland
deciduous, herbaceous openland and various wetland types. The two northern units are
hillier than the rest and contain parts of Hampton Creek and Hampton Lake. These units
also contain several stands of planted pine trees.
Habitat is plentiful for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and
cottontail rabbit. Many migratory birds are present, as well as a host of
reptile and amphibian species.
