The Starkweather Arts Center is a non-profit art center located in historic Downtown Romeo. The Starkweather Society brought to life the dream of Helen Starkweather, beloved art and drafting teacher in Romeo for over 30 years. Before Miss Starkweather died in 1987 at the age of 84, she bequeathed her 1883 historic residence and art studio to the Village of Romeo and the Romeo Historical Society, with the stipulation that it become an arts and cultural center, "..dedicated to promoting and fostering the appreciation of art and artisans". With this mission in place, the vision became clear. The Starkweather buildings have become the Starkweather Arts Center; providing gallery shows, educational classes, a sales gallery, community and special events, rental space and open mic nights. We strive to benefit both the art community and the community at large, in hopes of realizing Helen's dream. Current hours are Thursday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.
