Champion is nestled in and around a small valley near the eastern end of Lake Michigamme in the central portion of the Upper Peninsula.
Located about 30 miles west of Marquette, our small, quiet town was once a bustling iron mining center in the late 1800's.
Nature has reclaimed most of the mine land; however, large piles of rock, concrete foundations, steel cables, and other leftovers are still evident.
