Enjoy an evening with acclaimed Detroit-born pianist, composer, and arranger Scott Gwinnell, as he brings his signature artistry to the Ciao!Jazz series. Known for his dynamic presence both on stage and in the classroom, Gwinnell leads a versatile career performing as a sideman, bandleader, and educator. He is perhaps best known for his work with the 16-piece Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra, as well as for his deep-rooted contributions to the Detroit jazz scene.
Over the years, Gwinnell has shared the stage with some of the most iconic names in music, including Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Williams, Sheena Easton, Roberta Flack, Joe Lovano, Steve Turre, Richie Cole, Dave Liebman, and Karriem Riggins. He served as music director for vocal legend Jon Hendricks for three years, further establishing his reputation as a musician with depth, sensitivity, and range.
For this special performance, the Scott Gwinnell Quintet will pay tribute to the timeless songs of Burt Bacharach. Expect inventive arrangements, sophisticated harmonies, and heartfelt interpretations of some of Bacharach’s most beloved works.
Enjoy an intimate, 21+ evening of live music in a unique underground setting, with performances at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. Doors open 30 minutes before each show.
