Downriver Council for the Arts and Passenger Recovery are joining forces to present the first Recovery & Resilience Festival: A Celebration of Recovery Pathways Noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, during National Recovery Month. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music, creative workshops, an art exhibition and guest speakers – including a highly-anticipated appearance by Lol Tolhurst, co-founder of The Cure and author of the book “Cured,” which details his contributions in music and his sobriety.
The concept for this event grew out of an existing annual art exhibition, “Recovery & Resilience,” presented by the Downriver Council for the Arts and the Healthy Downriver Coalition. Started in 2021, the art exhibition brings together artists and community members to explore the deeply human experiences of recovery, resilience, healing and hope.
“We wanted to show some of the ways recovery can be a point of inspiration, that it can feel like growth, rather than punishment,” said Christopher Tait, founder of Passenger Recovery and co-director of the festival. “Traditional pathways aren’t the only way to recover from substance use disorder or opioid use disorder.”
Face Addiction Now, The Phoenix, The Recovery Barre, Soberwitch.Life, The Guidance Center, Hegira Health, No Fun Beverages, Celebrate MiLife, Recovery Action Network of Michigan, Be Well My Friends and more will make this free community event possible.
