A Glimpse of Africa Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan brings people together to celebrate, educate and share the rich, diverse cultures of Africa through food, music, dance, fashion, art & crafts, and other community activities. Held annually in August, it is West Michigan’s largest African cultural festival.
What to expect at A Glimpse of Africa Festival?
Expect to be immersed in the multifaceted cultures of the Mother Continent, the oldest inhabited continent on Earth. Sample a variety of foods from different African countries, shop for authentic African merchandise, enjoy entertainment by local African DJs, singers and dancers, and see local designers and models showcase African clothing and fashion trends. There will also be hair braiding, henna tattoos, headwrap tutorials, fun quizzes and other activities. Entertaining and inspiring for the whole family, A Glimpse of Africa is free to attend. Where is A Glimpse of Africa Festival held?
In Calder Plaza, the largest public gathering space in downtown Grand Rapids. The outdoor plaza is named for the 42-ton, bright red Alexander Calder sculpture at the center of the space.
