The Belleville Area
Museum was established in 1996 and serves the historical needs of the city of
Belleville, Sumpter Township, and Van Buren Township. The museum is housed in
the Old Van Buren Town Hall, built in 1875, and located on Main Street in
downtown Belleville, just off the banks of Belleville Lake. Our exhibits
feature artifacts and photos from the community’s formation until now,
including a special exhibit on Dr. Herbert Robb, including his doctor’s equipment
from the 1920s to the 1960s, and his 1919 Model T.
The museum also hosts and participates in
community events held throughout the year, including our Monthly Lecture Series,
our annual March Quilt Show, the summer Farmer’s Market Car Show on Main
Street, Harvest Fest, and our annual Holiday Tree Festival, which exhibits a beautiful
display of community-designed trees throughout December. Our mission is
to preserve the history of our tri-community and share it with current and
future generations.
