Dune Bird Winery is a unique fusion of history, innovation, and exceptional wines. Located on a stunning property with roots in the former lumber town of Gill’s Pier, the winery honors the land’s rich past while offering a modern, welcoming experience. Originally founded as Gill’s Pier Vineyard & Winery in 2002, the estate has transformed over the years, with new owners Bo and Nicole White reimagining the property as Dune Bird Winery in 2021 before selling in late 2024.
The winery features a 20-year-old, 4-acre vineyard, renowned for its award-winning varietals. With a sloping southern exposure, the vineyard thrives in the unique terroir, benefiting from lake-effect snow that blankets the vines and winds off Lake Michigan that create a slightly warmer microclimate during winter. Varieties grown include Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The result is a range of cool-climate wines that showcase the distinctive character of the land.
Unique estate grown grapes and an award-winning vintner set the stage, but this space is just as much for the non-wine drinker, the remote worker, the espresso connoisseur, the wanderer in search of a comfortable chair. At Dune Bird, hospitality is at the heart of the experience. Our goal is simple: to make every guest feel welcomed and valued, creating a memorable experience with every visit. Welcome to Dune Bird Winery—where tradition meets innovation, and people come first.
