in 1891, John Ball Zoo is the 10th oldest Zoo in the U.S. and is an
internationally accredited, world-class zoo. We pride ourselves in being a leader in animal care with the purpose of
saving wildlife and wild places. As Grand Rapids’ leading cultural attraction,
John Ball Zoo provides one-of-a-kind educational opportunities and a welcoming,
fun experience for all.
There is so much to explore when visiting
John Ball Zoo. Visitors can enjoy discovering pygmy hippos, black swans and
bald eagles, captivating habitats like the Zoo’s aquarium and Wild Way Trail,
along with fun, interactive experiences like face painting, ziplining, camel
rides, and the Forest Realm Stage.
Meandering through the trees,
guests will find the habitats of red pandas, tigers, lions, chimpanzees, bears,
and many other beautiful animals being cared for by the Zoo’s dedicated and
compassionate team. Spread throughout the zoo are
multiple café and snack stations where guests can enjoy a Hippo Salad or a cool
