Thompson’s Harbor State Park is located on the northeast side of the Lower Peninsula, just north of Alpena. The Main Trail inside Thompson’s Harbor State Park is 5.2 miles long, is composed of two loops, and offers many picturesque views of Lake Huron. The land is primarily composed of limestone, giving the park and its trails a unique terrain. Along the journey, visitors will likely have the chance to see a lot of Dwarf Lake Iris, as the area is known for having the largest population of the flower species in the world. The park also houses more than 100 species of birds, coyotes, deer and potentially black bears. True adventure awaits along the Main Trail in Thompson’s Harbor State Park. Hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing are permitted along the trail, weather permitting.
