Create Your Own Pure Michigan Sweater this Winter
This Michigan sweater pattern might be inspired by the “ugly” holiday sweater trend, but it’s far from ugly. It’s been crafted with love for Pure Michigan, inspired by freshwater lakes, lush forests of pine trees and the blanket of fresh snow that signifies winter has arrived.
“I’ve lived in Michigan almost my whole life, and I come from a long line of crafters,” explains fiber artist and creator Madie Loebig, who has cultivated an Instagram following of DIY crafters seeking out patterns and sewing tutorials.
With an eye for sustainability, Loebig recommends upcycling fabrics – whether that’s thrifting for cool designs or repurposing your favorite T-shirt from childhood – to create this quilted pattern with a unique embroidery design.
“I think a lot of people these days are interested in creating more and not consuming as much,” she says. “By making a pattern that’s beginner-friendly, it removes a whole barrier so people can try something new.”
Download the pattern below and follow Madie’s step-by-step tutorial to create your own craft. Don't forget to share your creations using #PureMichiganSweater!
