This program features music on a theme of “TRANSFORMATIONS” including March from Symphonic Metamorphosis, Firebird Suite, Death and Transfiguration Finale, Variations on a Theme of Robert Schumann, soundtrack highlights from Transformers, Variations and Theme for Flute and Band, and more! A portion of this concert will be performed by the band the following week at the Red Cedar Festival of Community Bands at Okemos High School.Special guest soloist for the evening is Martha Councell-Vargas, Assistant Professor of Flute at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. She holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Central and South America, Europe, China, and across the United States, and is a top prizewinner in several national and international competitions. She specializes in the music of Latin America and the Caribbean and has studied with the world’s leading flutists, including Michel Debost and Leone Buyse.Tickets are at the door: $10 for Adults and $5 for Students & Seniors +65.
