In Fields: Color & Fiber, Northville artist Denise Gonzalez shares a collection of artwork highlighted by linocuts, woodcuts, cyanotypes, paintings, and sculpture involving handmade paper, wood, and other natural materials. Join us for the opening reception Friday, January 10, 5 - 8 pm with light fare and refreshments.
Denise shares, “Paper and wood are at the core of my work and are the jettison of my inspiration.”
Paper and wood build the foundation of Denise’s work in different ways. Paper is a marker in space, an infuser of thoughts and things as well as a receptor of contrast and emotion. It can be worked with wet or dry, painted upon or sculpted, the center of attention or the facilitator of light and color. Wood demands form and space, finesse and story, strength and gesture. While wood is often used as a foundation, it can also serve as the core of one’s focus. Whether it be from the forest or field, working with wood and paper fosters an intimate connection between source and form. In their essence, these materials can be both beautiful and functional.
