Hamtramck's cuisine options are pretty endless, figuratively speaking. The city boasts Indian, Bengali, Lebanese, Polish, and Bosnian cuisines. They also have pizza places, cheeseburgers, delis, and a number of bakeries. Oh and you can't forget its Chicken Shack/Hungry Howie's combo store. But, wait, there is more. North of Caniff there is a quaint, family-owned place called Maria's Comida, and it's Hamtown's only Mexican joint. The family Pronko, owners of Maria's, bought the space (which actually used to be Hamtramck's other Mexican spot but was sitting vacant for about a year), gutted it, remodeled it, and opened up a solid restaurant. The salsa is house-made and excellent and the Pronkos are always out on the floor talking to their customers. It's very mom-and-pop with a modern twist.
