The Marquette Symphony Orchestra’s mission is to create, provide, and promote professional performances of orchestral music through collaboration with residents and music educators of the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Five times a year, we offer exciting concerts—classical, pops, newly-commissioned works, old favorites, concerts and symphonies and tone poems and everything in between—to Upper Peninsula residents who come from as far as a hundred miles away to enjoy quality music in Marquette. Our success in these efforts is demonstrated by the fact that in 2016 we are embarking on our gala 20th anniversary season—a huge milestone to those who, back in 1996, launched the organization with little more than faith, hope, and passion for good music. As we enter our 20th anniversary season, the MSO has come to be recognized as a major artistic and cultural asset of the region. Led by Maestro Jacob Chi, the orchestra’s musicians—including full-time professional musicians, passionate community members, and select high school students—tackle challenging repertoire. We are keystone of Marquette’s vibrant cultural life that makes it a mecca for area art-lovers and helps fuel the area’s tourist industry. We also help enhance the quality of life that brings retirees into our community and enables area employers to attract talent nationwide.
